Raised in Baton Rouge, LA, byway of Oxford, MS, Rashanda, as the eldest child and grandchild, quickly embraced a role of caring, and nurturing others. That same compassion and selflessness led her to a career in higher education as a student affairs administrator. Rashanda obtained masters and bachelor degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University, and, later, earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership, Research, and Counseling with a higher education administration concentration from Louisiana State University.
Rashanda experienced many life challenges which eventually negatively effected her mental health. A diagnoses of insulin resistant PCOS, first trimester miscarriages, losing her maternal grandmother and 'shero', a breast cancer scare, an abrupt divorce after six months of marriage, and ignored childhood traumatic events led Rashanda to unpack years of trauma through prayer, therapy, and medication. Rashanda decided to authentically share her story while providing the resources and tools to assist others to heal in order to GROW through what they are going, and/or have gone, through.
Dr. Booker's new book, Groundlessness: A Journey From Pain to Peace, is a transparent and raw true story about her journey through depression, perfectionism, battle with faith, and childhood pain. She shares with us her feelings of pain and groundlessness while providing tips and tools to motivate readers to find their footing despite their circumstances.
